Has Your Water Started Tasting Funny? What To Do

If the water coming out of your faucets doesn't taste right and you don't think the problem is the city purification system, the problem may be within your plumbing system. If the plumbing is decades old and it hasn't been properly maintained, the issues that you have could be putting everyone who drinks and uses the water at risk. Here are a few of the things you can have the plumbing professionals come to your house to do to make sure everything in the water is fine.

Test Your Water

Have the water tested to see if galvanization has caused exposure to toxins like lead and if these toxins are in your drinking water or if there is buildup or corrosion causing the water to taste odd. The water testing will let you know if your water is lacking or abundant in anything, and if you have anything to worry about drinking the water until you do more investigations with the plumbing.

Get Rid of the Big Storage Water Heater

Do you have an older hot water heater that stores water throughout the day until you need it? If so, minerals can leave a residue and build up on the walls over time, and this could be what you taste when you run the water. Flushing the tank is an option, along with replacing the tank with a hot water heater with a tankless water heater so you don't have to worry about the problem occurring again in the future.

Clean the Pipes

The pipes are going to get dirty over time, and the pipes should be cleaned by experts. During the cleaning, the plumbing experts can take hard water minerals and debris off the sides of the plumbing and use a camera to see if there are problems throughout the system that need to be addressed. If chemicals are used to clean the pipes, make sure you run the water as directed until all the chemicals are flushed out of the system.

If you still have the water problems and you don't care for the taste of your water after you have done all these things, you'll want to consider putting a water purifications system at the mouth of your faucets, or getting your drinking water from a different source. If you have noticed that you water is starting to taste different and you don't like it, get to the bottom of the problem fast.
